NYC's concierges have a Field Day!

In an article in the August 24 issue of The New Yorker New York City’s top concierges get a chance to mince words. Yah!

This occurred one Thursday evening this month at the Time Warner Center where the best of the best got a chance to air out their experiences with all manner of guests they’ve helped over the past year. Some popular films come to mind. “Love of Money” released in ’93, for one, had Michael J. Fox play the salute to his non-relenting pestering guest, a Mr. Salvatore who asks for a solution to “dem things on the (his ) pillow,” And he got it right. Mr.Salvatore voted for mints instead.

Many of the concierges wear the Gold Key lapel pin whenever on duty. It proves they knows the ropes. Some of the other co-horts on board that evening included Harald Mootz, of the St. Regis, Len Feiner, formerly of the Crowne Plaza, Russell McFadden of the Sherry Netherlands, Ken Abisror of the Mandarin Oriental who we’re told wears a Fan Pin instead of a Clef D’or, Maria Trejo-McDonald and John Morales both from the Ritz-Carlton.

The event was sponsored by The Shops at Columbus Circle
where a number of booths featuring anything a respectable concierge would want. And they were all there. Saphora
with their make-up kis, Aveda with skin-care products, and
New York sandwiches from Porter House New York, a higher-end restaurantin the complex.

Mr. Mootz from the St. Regis, a former guest on our “Summer in the City” show on July 2 was rant to talk about some of the more popular dinning sites around town. Included among these were Monkey Bar, Waverly Inn, Momofuku Ko. “They only take reservations by e-mail”, he added.
Mr. Mootz tells us that he and his fellow concierges do get together on occasion for a smoke. Cigars at Davidoff and De La Concha are favorites for them. They are all members of the Concierge Association of New York. And boy do they know their stuff.
