Travel by IRT #7 train from Times Square or Grand Central to Willetts Point Station then walk past Unisphere to three tiered pavilion once the NY State Theatre from 1964-’65 World Fair now the home of the new Queens In the Park Theatre. This is a find. The Worlds Fair Park is also a discovery. Witness the Unisphere built by United State Steel Corp. in 1964 heralding “man’s aspirations….” Also see Eddie’s Garden, right across from it and the New York State Museum featuring an incredible mock-up of the 1964-’65 fair itself. The park is best known, however, for its annual US OPEN, the sport of tennis’ yearly tribute to athletes from around the world. The Arthur Ash Stadium is the main complex for the event which traditionally gets under way over the Labor Day weekend. Check local media for details on this.
Sponsors for the LATINO Cultural Festival include Delta Airlines, Con Edison, Time Warner, Chase Bank, El Diario, NYSCA, NYCulture, and the National Endowment For The Arts.
