JAPAN SOCIETY’S 27th annual Dinner reception:
New York, NY, May 24th, 2011 at The Waldorf Astoria.
This annual black tie event had a quadruple purpose:
1. To make a statement to the U.S. market that Japan is an important ally and significant partner of the U.S.
2. To coshare with the U.S. it’s position in the world in terms of policy making, mutual cohesion and economic unity.
3. To present its future plate in building bridges with the U.S. by presenting its platform of cultural diversity and social relativity each year through its active fundraising campaigns and awards programs.
4. To provide an update on the recent catastrophic events in Japan with a progress report to the world. To date the Japanese Eathquake Relief Fund received over $7,000,000
The event was lead by the Japan Society’s Chairman,Wilbur L.Ross, Jr., and President Motoatsu Sakura, the previous Ambassador and Consul General of Japan in New York. CNBC’s Anchor Maria Bartiroma was the MC for the evening with Morgan Stanley’s CEO, James P.Gorman as the keynote speaker. Mr. Gorman emphasized the company’s strategic support to Japan over the coming decade.
Special awards were announced honoring jazz stylist and composerAiko Yano, and Maestro Seiji Ozawa. A special award was presented to veteran baseball manager and Japanese favorite sports alumnus, Bobby Valentine who delivered the closing remarks to an audience of more than 650 business executives and political leaders.
This event may be particularly noted as Japan’s facecard in the U.S.
The Japan Society is an Amerian institution with a non-profit status which fosters mutual understanding and global awareness between the two countries.
