The MUSIC MAN
Meredith Willson’s and Franklin Lacey’s The MUSIC MAN is a joyous
ride this Summer at the Shawnee Playhouse in Shawnee On Delaware, PA. From June-thru-August. Stars Brian Bowman as Prof.Harold Hill, Sara Ferguson as Marion Paroo and Dante Gavin as Mayor Shinn.
Ginny Rickard plays Eulalie Shinn.
This songfest with clever
pollyanna costumes and nicely done
pie-in-the sky sets, deserves a cheer. A 5-time Tony Award winner
for best play and Best Musical, the songs are forever. You’ll whistle to
Ya Got Trouble, Goodnight Ladies, Seventy Six Trombones and
Till There Was You.
The playhouse now in its 106th year
is a national landmark, and presents
popular productions 12 months-a-year. It also provides S.T.A.R.S.,
theatre classes for children and young adults, a Summer campsite,
an opera company, a concert series each week free-of-charge, an artists’
showcase, and more. It’s pro-active to say the least and is the main current for theatre in the Poconos.
Earlier stagings included I DO,I DO, Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of
Being Earnest, and The Seafarer.
In July, Roal Dahl’s Willy Wonka Junior, The LAST of the RED HOT
LOVERS, and Neil Simon’s RUMORS
are being offered. What’s there not
to love? The Shawnee Playhouse does it all. By car or bus it’s a 2-hour drive from NYC.
