Summer stage Central Park Celebration of Cuban& Salsa
It seems only fitting that as Let’s Travel! recently showcased the cultural and travel worthy places of the Caribbean and Puerto Rico, that I, myself a twenty-year-old music junkie intern would stumble into an environment of Latin Music Heaven. This past lazy rainy day Sunday was anything but lazy as I was able to groove to the hot Latin sounds at Central Park’s Summerstage, an all summer-long series of FREE concerts celebrating Latin American arts. This particular day was a tribute to the sounds of Cuba and salsa and commemorating a Latino record company called Fania records. The crowd gathered in their finest fedoras and linen summer shirts ready to listen to the sounds of Jose Conde, DJ Bobbito Garcia, and DJ Laylo.
Jose Conde brought his rendition of his Cubano cultural roots juxtaposed with a funky soulful backdrop.
NYC Native and world renowned DJ Bobbito Garcia along with female Dominican/Puerto Rican DJ Laylo dominated the turntables to create a fun and fresh house party feel to the crowd.
Stay tuned to find out more as I embark on my Latin American music festival crusade, bringing you the NYC/Latin cultural fusion of sound throughout the summer months. Check out www.summerstage.org to find concert set lists and dates throughout the summer.
