Malbec World Day
April 17 in New York is the opening day for Argentina’s World Malbec Day,
a month-long celebration of Malbec, Argentina’s most famous wine. Consul
General Jose Luis Perez-Gabilondo will
open the festivities at the New York Public Library where nearly two-dozen producers will introduce their vintages
to a larger public including a bevy of
celebrities,leading restaurateurs, wine connoisseurs, VIP guests, and press media. The Director of Argentina’s National Institute of Tourism, the Chairman of Wines of Argentina and the Queen of the Harvest of the Province of Mendoza will be on hand to introduce these wines. Following this will be a “Crush” at the City Winery in New York where several tons of Malbec grape flown in where it will be made into Malbec wine. A day long tasting follows on the 17th. On April 20-May 11 the 10th annual Tribeca Film Festival takes place with Malbec as the offficial wine sponsor. Over 130 events will take place during this three-week film festival.
Argentina is the fifth largest exporter of wines to the U.S., with an estimated total value of over 200 million. According to Argentina’s Ambassador to the U.S., Luis Kreckler, who also serves as Secretary of International Trade, we’re their biggest customer.
