La Pasquetta
i Trulli, one of NYC’s favorite Italian eateries does La Pasquetta better than most. This annual Italian tradition, the day after Easter Sunday in Italy, is a tasters holiday. Think leftovers or whatever Italians could not consume on the big holiday before and you have La Pasquetta or Little Easter, where the food and wine keep flowing.
At i Trulli a team of well-honed servers presents the region’s favorite dishes. Include the traditional Leg of Lamb, then several courses of greens,
i.e., fried artichokes, broccoli di rabe,
a bruschetta of fava beans, along with
tender slabs of roast beef, house cured sausage, thinly-sliced roast ham, along with zucchini blossoms, whole wheat berry salad, a frittata of egg and hard cheese, and “fried” pasta. Then there’s their famous holiday Easter pie, the best I’ve
tasted, and nominated as one of the best in the city by New York Magazine, and some very good expresso. All this and a selection of
regional wines from Apullia for $48 pp.
What’s not to love?
Though La Pasquetta comes but once a year this writer recommends an occasional visit to the place. Since 1994 it’s run by the family of Nicola Marzovilla with Mama M in the kitchen most nights. The lead chef is Patti Jackson. They’re located at 127 East 27 Street a few doors off of Park and Lexington in NYC. The phone is: 212-481.7372.
Oh yes, i Trulli is named after those funny little white coned casitas in the region of Apullia, one of Italy’s national most respected landmarks.
