ITALIAN WINE weeks in NYC

italtrade.com and GALA ITALIA/ GALA 30, sponsored by the Italian Wine & Food Institute/ [email protected] announce annual awards for the best in Italian wines, weeks of Feb.4 ( Waldorf Hotel ) and Feb.19 ( Pierre Hotel ). VINO 2015 will host 17 importers from the tri-state area and California for its Hall of Fame awards according to Pier Paolo Celeste, ITC’s trade commissioner in the U.S. The “VINO” program was created in 2009 to market, promote, and celebrate the legacy of Italian wines sold in the U.S. More than 200 industry professionals are expected to attend the Feb.4th press media luncheon at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. GALA ITALIA’s 30th is planned for Feb.19 in New York’s
Pierre Hotel. Wines from Trentino to Sicily, from Piedmont to Tuscany, will be presented along with some of the best known
Italian restaurants in New York including LeCirque, Macelleria, Osteria del Circo, Piada, Risotteria Melotti, Serafina and
Cacio e Vino. More than 100 wines will be offered.. Exports of Italian Wine to the U.S. is now est’d at $1.3 billion up from $44 million in 1974. At the dinner following the day-part press media
luncheon four ( two magnums included ) bottles of special wines created by Vinitaly will be opened to honor the 150th anniversary of Italy’s Unification ( 1861-2011 ). Proceeds from the Gala will be used to support American students’ programs in the Italian language. Each of the wines selected that evening will earn a
